Ookla's recent report suggests that PLDT Home WiFi is the best choice that consumers can get for their family, as it offers the widest and fastest network coverage in the country. In fact, it scored a speed score of 17.07 against its rival’s 10.05 speed score.

Smart’s connections were tested in different areas, as well. With this, it recorded 25.36 in Quezon City, 25.21 in Makati, and 25.01 in Manila. It’s also tested on multiple unique devices, giving an average download speed of 19.33 Mbps and average upload speed of 9.16 Mbps.

Meanwhile, PLDT Home WiFi Prepaid has doubled the data allocation of its FamLoad packages to treat its subscribers. With FamLoad 199, users can now get 24GB instead of just 12GB, while FamLoad 599 now offers 80GB instead of 40GB. On the other hand, FamLoad 999 and FamLoad 1499 now have 130GB and 200GB, respectively.

Original members of the Technical Working Group (TWG) has urged the Senate and Congress to step in and investigate the irregularities surrounding the fate of motorcycle taxis' pilot run.

TWG members also calls for transparency and inclusivity in the said decision-making process.

The excluded TWG members pointed out that there’s a lack of update and proper consultation with stakeholders despite regular follow-ups and request for updates on urgent issues, such as the pilot run of motorcycle taxis. Hence, they filed a petition asking the Senate and Congress to step in, and finally pass a law legalizing and regulating motorcycle taxis.

“The TWG is supposed to monitor the safety of the riders and the riding public using data collected, by Angkas, within a six-month period. Despite repeated requests from the sector for the TWG to convene, a secret meeting was conducted, last November 2019, with solely government agencies in attendance, to make an assessment. Hence, the consumers, advocacy groups and other stakeholders, were excluded from decision-making. This prompted us to ask for updates from those who were present and pleaded that the complete TWG be convened in the future,” the petition stated.

The excluded members of the group also revealed that TWG recently convened several meetings on key issues, including updates on the pilot run and its possible extension, as well as the entry of new players without consulting the original stakeholders outside of the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

The group also uncovered that only the DOTr, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), the Land Transportation Office (LTO), and the InterAgency Council for Traffic (IACT) have decided on the said issues.

With this, transport and mobility advocates Lawyers for Commuter Safety and Protection (LCSP), KOMYUT, LEADER, Move Metro Manila, and FTransport Watch issued a joint statement decrying these irregularities.

“In principle we agree with the need for the motorcycle taxi safety protocols to be extended to and applied to other motorcycle taxi service providers. Competition is good and should be a welcome development. We are just concerned with the process through which this decision was made without us having been called into a meeting at all,” Dr. Grace Jamon, Convenor of Move Metro Manila, addressed.

The group also stated that they need to hear from and coordinate with motorcycle taxi app Angkas in order for them to find out their official data, which was gathered during their six-month test run operations.

PLDT explained that a contractor setting up the CCTV network of MMDA has accidentally cut its fiber transmission cables in EDSA, Mandaluyong. As a result, its subscribers including government agencies and other clients would experience slowdowns in their data services.

According to its statement, their data services to government agencies, several major financial and retail companies, and PLDT Home customers in parts of Metro Manila would be interrupted because of this incident.

“PLDT’s data services to government agencies like the 911 emergency service and several major financial and retail companies were disrupted, which in turn interrupted the services of these companies to their own customers. Meantime, some PLDT Home customers in parts of Metro Manila also experienced slowdowns in their data service.”

On the other hand, PLDT said that the company needed to get the permission of MMDA because its repair work would affect traffic along EDSA.

“Meantime, data services of the affected enterprises are being restored through traffic rerouting and cable restoration. We shall provide further update as needed.”

PLDT also apologized for the inconvenience it may have caused the public.

In China, Vivo has introduced the latest members of its X-smartphone series – the Vivo X30 and X30 Pro.

The new Vivo X30 series offers almost the same specs, as the two devices come with only a small tweak, which will be found in its photography section.

For instance, the X30 Pro sports a quad-rear camera setup, consisting of a 64-megapixel main shooter, 13-megapixel telephoto sensor with up to 5x hybrid and 60 digital zoom, 32-megapixel portrait lens, and an 8-megapixel wide-angle sensor. It also has a LASER auto-focus, allowing the device to capture images faster and more accurate.

In China, Xiaomi recently launched the newest members of Redmi’s K-series – the K30 and K30 5G. However, a new configuration of its 5G variant is expected to arrive, as it has been certified on TENAA.

Spotted on TENAA, the K30 5G is set to offer up to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB storage, suggesting that it can dominate its rivals at its price point. And as TENAA has already approved the phone, consumers can expect that the variant will be available soon in China.

In case you missed it, the new Redmi K30 series flaunts a premium design, making it one of the most good-looking Redmi smartphones. And although it shares almost the same design and specs, the two devices still have major distinctions in terms of its internals.

Angkas asked for support and netizens granted their wish, as local hashtag #SaveAngkas trended worldwide on Twitter – a sign that thousands of its users are disappointed over the government’s decision that will put 17,000 bikers at risk of losing jobs.

Earlier, Angkas has posted its official statement, asking netizens and its users to show their support, and fight for its 17,000 bikers who might lose their jobs.

The motorcycle taxi app also revealed that they wanted to increase the numbers of their bikers, but the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) didn’t allow them. Instead, Angkas received the news that out of their 27,000 bikers, only 10,000 bikers will have the chance to continue their service.

Meanwhile, it has been revealed that there will be two new players entering the motorcycle taxi industry, namely JoyRide and Move It. With this, the government’s Technical Working Group (TWG) decided to set a new cap of 39,000 split among the three companies, including Angkas.

Hence, Angkas will be limited to only 10,000 bikers in Metro Manila, and 3,000 bikers in Metro Cebu.

Ride-hailing apps have definitely become a thing among passengers and regular commuters nowadays. Apart from the locally-defunct Uber and Grab, which offer car rides for their services, there’s also Angkas, a motorcycle ride-hailing service. While Angkas has been the most popular and most-used player in the motorcycle ride-hailing industry, it is set to be challenged by two new names, one of which is called as JoyRide PH.

A Simple Guide on How to be a JoyRide PH Rider

What and who is JoyRide PH?

Set to be operational on December 23 as part of the government’s motorcycle taxis extended pilot implementation until March 23, 2020. JoyRide PH currently has official Facebook pages, which are the JoyRide PH Kasundo Bikers (@JRPHKasundoBikers) and its customer service-centric page JoyRide PH (@JoyRidePHILIPPINES).

In an interview with a major publication, Noli Eala, JoyRide PH Vice President for Corporate Affairs said that they currently have ready helmets, uniforms, and vests for the 7,000 riders, which they call ‘Kasundo,’ initially registered.

As of writing, the JoyRide apps for riders and passengers are now available for download on the Google Play Store. Similar to most ride-hailing apps, JoyRide’s app for passengers named as JoyRide: Motorcycle Taxi, has a simple and user-friendly interface which entails passenger to indicate their pick-up and drop-off points. The app also has a space for “notes” in which passengers can tell the riders things like what color of shirt they are wearing, or the nearest landmark of their pick-up location. It also has a dedicated space for fare, estimated time of arrival, and the estimated distance of travel.

Once a passenger has booked a Kasundo, the app will show the name and photo of the rider and the type and plate number of the motorcycle, as well as its proximity to the pick-up location.

Signing up for the app is also pretty easy. First, passengers will be tasked to enter their mobile phone number for verification, and then a code will be sent. After this, passengers can now set up their profile to include their name, email address, and photo. Once done with these steps, the passenger can now proceed to book a ride using the app.

For the riders, their JoyRide app is named as JoyRide Biker, also on the Google Play Store. Through this, they can view and manage their trips easily.

How to Register or Become JoyRide PH Rider?

For convenience, registration as a rider of JoyRide PH is done through an online application through this link: https://joyride-prod.firebaseapp.com/#/onboarding.

According to JoyRide PH, they accept full-time and part-time riders age 20-55 years old. For those who wish to be a rider and are 50 to 55 years old, JoyRide PH will require you to upload and present a ‘fit to work’ medical certificate.

On the online form, applicants will be asked to enter the following details:
- Name
- Address
- Date of Birth
- Birthplace
- Gender
- Email Address
- Mobile Number
- Phone Brand
- IMEI Number of the Phone
- Civil Status
- TIN
- SSS
- Mother’s Maiden Name
- Emergency Contact Name

Under the Biker Certification portion, applicants will be asked to upload the following:
- NBI Clearance
- Police or Brgy Clearance
- Driver’s License
- Official Receipt of Motorcycle

For the Motorcycle and License Details, here are the information needed:
- Motorcycle Brand
- Motorcycle Model
- Model Year
- Piston Displacement
- Plate Number
- Engine Number
- Chassis Number
- OR Expiry Date
- Motorcycle Type
- Driver’s License Type
- Driver’s License Number
- Driver’s License Expiry Date

The last part of the form is an applicant questionnaire and reminders on what to bring on the training and onboarding day. Once the form has been fully finished and has been submitted online, applicants will just have to wait for a text message advising the date of their training and onboarding schedule.

JoyRide PH conducts its skills training, and sometimes accepts walk-in applicants in their JoyRide PH Onboarding Facility located at 80 Marcos Highway, Brgy. Mayamot, Antipolo City.

Please do note that the motorcycles that are accepted are those with at least 100cc up to 200cc displacements and must be in excellent working conditions. The driver's license must also be professional, and JoyRide PH Rider applicants must also have GCash accounts.
