Huawei has officially announced its own operating system – HarmonyOS, which will be known as HongmengOS in China.

Happened at Huawei Developer Conference in China, Consumer Business Group CEO Richard Yu dropped the news about the company’s new OS by claiming that it will be faster and safer than Android. Moreover, Yu explained that it is designed for IoT products, including smartphones, smart displays, wearables, smart speakers, and cars.

Yu described HarmonyOS as a future-proof, microkernel-based, distributed OS for all scenarios. Moreover, the platform is open source, and could rival Google’s upcoming Fuchsia.

Meanwhile, Huawei explained that the company will still support Android as long as they can still access Google’s Android ecosystem. However, they assure users that can deploy HarmonyOS “at any time.”

In case you missed it, U.S. lifted its ban on Huawei, and expressed that it is willing to grant licenses to deal with the Chinese mobile brand if national security wouldn’t be affected. However, it seems like the Trump administration is delaying its decision, as China closes purchases of U.S. farming goods.
