In accordance to Memorandum Circular No. 05-12-2017 issued by NTC, DITC and DTI, Smart Communications announced their compliance in this a press statement.
Smart said that Smart, TNT and Sun Cellular prepaid load will have a validity of one year instead of varying length of validity. In particular, they said that prepaid load worth PHP300 upwards will be the firsts that would be affected by the changes. Prepaid cards with these amounts will have one year validity regardless of the expiry date printed on the cards.

Smart stated this as well about the MC:
We are grateful to the three agencies for the grant of a six-month extension period before the full implementation of the MC. This provides us more time to implement the extensive reconfiguration of our IT and other support systems, and to conduct the needed tests, in order to ensure trouble-free implementation of the new expiry period.
